Wow thanks for the advice, looks like I'll have to do a tour combining several South American countries then. I have heard that Bolivia and Peru are the cheapest to travel around.
I don't think Peru is the best idea at the moment after all the earthquake business going on... I think donations are what they need right now, not tourists...
I hear Argentina is lovely and their economy is in absolute turmoil so you should do quite well with the exchange rates.

My brother went to the Galápagos Islands and did mostly 'touristy' things like scuba diving. He said it was the most amazing holiday ever!

Hmmm, yeh I don't think it has much to offer really, a few adventure tours, similar to many other countries...
