I'm looking for student bars anywhere in central Europe, I've bought an InterRail ticket for my Europe tour next year and the guys who I'm going with are all students so we're looking to save money on drinks by trying to find a student kind of area. Anyone know any in any central Europe?

My son came back from Munich and said that the best bar he had ever been to was 'The Wombat' I think it was? He said it was a growing chain and was extremely sociable with vast quantities of cheap booz!

Hope this helps

If you are passing through Riga, you have to go to Riga Old Town Hostel - very cheap beer, friendly staff and it's open 24 hours. I was in the city for three days and ended up in there after a night out even though I wasn't doing the backpacking thing (we were staying in the hotel next door!). I can confirm the bar is definitely open 24 hours and I'd like to think our trade over the three days contributed to the very flash sign that now adorns the front of the building...

sweet, looks right up our ally, I've heard Riga is....a tad rough though? I don't suppose you'll have gotten mugged going from the hotel to next door though!

Yeh looks very similar to the style of the wombat, probably very good value. Also, do a search for hostel / bars in Prague, there will be a lot of results maybe they could help!

Riga is the same as anywhere I'd say - if you respect the locals and keep your wits about you, you'll have no problems. Like Prague, they do seem to be swamped by British stag parties nowadays and I can't blame their less than enthusiastic response to this influx. I've been there a couple of times with no problems.

I'll keep looking, I bet when I get to wherever I go I'll find loads of them everywhere anyway. And I bet your right about Riga, probably worse places out there but its just common sense anyway

I went to a charming little Brasserie in Munich called Chez Philippe where they serve a rather tastey selection of Weisse beers.
