One of my best friends is thinking about getting married abroad as it's so much cheaper and you can pretty much guarantee better weather than the UK - she's thinking either Italy or Thailand. Anyone got any destination recommendations?
I'd be sweating too much in both of those. I wouldn't find it a very happy day for me or my guests, but then I suppose some people don't appreciate the British weather anymore. I'm not a fan of long distance flights either, so if I had to vote I'd say Italy.
I agree with the lottery comment, its quite expensive going to everyones weddings on different ends of the earth! I bought 4 tickets this weekend too, got 1 number out of all of them. Shocking.
I went to a wedding on Kho Samui in Thailand - on a beach near Chaweng (but not on Chaweng which is very busy). It was one of the best weddings i've been to and was so nice as all the guests got to spend the week running up to the wedding getting to know each other. I'm going to a wedding in Sydney too and I hear Jamaica is another good foreign wedding spot.
Natasha, I agree. Wedding ceremony in Thailand is very romantic and surprising show. Wedding in Thailand is a sacred institution that has evolved and thrived for thousands of years. It can take place in a number of settings: a tropical beach, a garden, one of the many offshore islands, a Buddhist temple or even beneath a waterfall! The procedure is quite spiritual and in a traditional setting, extremely joyous.
During the weeks before the wedding many couples commission a photo session somewhere like an elephant camp (weddings in the past used elephants for good luck) or at the beach. It is traditional for the bride and groom to pray at a Buddhist temple before the wedding, but not obligatory.
On the day, the actual ceremony begins with the groom leading the "Long Drum Parade" across the garden or beach to wherever the altar has been set up. Here the groom is joined by the bride who will usually be dressed in a traditional, close-fitting, brightly colored Thai silk outfit. The legal ceremony takes place when the couple pronounce their vows and exchange rings, normally to Thai music.

I wonder why weather is so much important for the wedding? As far as I know most of the wedding celebrations take place indoor - is it so crucial to have a sunny sky while going to the car? What's about Venice? Wedding suppose to be 'romantic', but 40 degree at late evening not always is:) Have a shiny weddings anyway, I probably prefer the rainy ones...

Sounds like a good excuse for a holiday...did the people getting married contribute to travel costs at all? Bit of an effort to get there!

I think I'm too young to comment on what people should want or even what i'd want in a wedding!
But I thought the idea was u have a wedding in a normal place and go on honeymoon to somewhere sunny!
